Molecular Technique Relevant to Blood Group Genotyping
  • Dr Desirée du Sart, VCGS Pathology, Murdoch Childrens Research Institute

Dr Desirée du Sart is head of the VCGS Molecular Genetics Laboratory, one of the largest molecular diagnostic laboratories for inherited disorders in Australasia. She is part of the International OECD Genetic Testing Steering Group, which developed international guidelines on quality assurance and minimum standards for genetic testing and is the foundational Chair of the HGSA Molecular Quality Assurance Program (QAP). She was awarded the Victorian Premier's prize for achievement in Medical Research in 1998, and the Victoria's Young Tall Poppies award from the Australian Institute of Political Science in 1999. She is involved in a number of high level committees and advisory boards in genetics.

Ms Mary Zmijarevic is a Senior Scientist at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, Transfusion Laboratory. She has completed a Degree in Medical Science, Masters in Medical Science and a MBA. She is currently working on a project "RhD genotyping of foetal DNA extracted from maternal plasma".

Marilyn goes to Bollywood

I commenced my working life in 1971 as a Secretary in the Pathology Department at Box Hill Hospital. Six months later I commenced the R.M.I.T. course in Medical Laboratory Technology and returned to Box Hill Hospital as a trainee Medical Scientist. I worked in all Departments of the laboratory, but my favourite Department was always Blood Bank, where I am now the Senior Blood Bank Scientist for Eastern Health Pathology.
