Case Report: Isolation of Mycobacterium Abscessus from a Lung Transplant Patient
Jim de Boer is a senior scientist at the Microbiology Department of the Alfred Hospital, Melbourne, Victoria. Before joining the Alfred in 2007, he was the Technical Manger in Microbiology, Melbourne Pathology, Microbiology Business Operation manager at CSL and Scientist in Charge of Microbiology at the Royal Darwin Hospital He has an extensive background in diagnostic microbiology with special interest in the antimicrobial resistance, general microbiology and parasitology. Jim has a Fellowship in Microbiology from AIMS and has a Master in Public Health and Tropical Medicine from James Cook University. |

Dr Caroline Reed obtained a BSc (London) in Microbiology, working as a medical scientist before studying medicine. She graduated from University College Hospital in 1981, completing her MRCPath in 1988, and FRCPA in 1994. Caroline joined Dorevitch Pathology in 1994, and continues to work there as a Consultant Medical Microbiologist. |
Identifying Fungi: Do we need to use Molecular Methods?
Sue Coloe has more than 30 years experience in diagnostic microbiology and mycology, working in both the public and private sectors. She has a MSc (Applied Science) from RMIT on the topics of dermatophyte epidemiology and molecular speciation and has published in both these areas. She is a NATA technical assessor and a reviewer of NH&MRC project grants. Currently Sue is a senior scientist at Melbourne Pathology. |
