Challenges in Genetic Testing of Cardiac Arrhythmia Disorders
  • Dr Desirée du Sart, VCGS Pathology, Murdoch Childrens Research Institute

Dr Desirée du Sart is head of the VCGS Molecular Genetics Laboratory, one of the largest molecular diagnostic laboratories for inherited disorders in Australasia. She is part of the International OECD Genetic Testing Steering Group, which developed international guidelines on quality assurance and minimum standards for genetic testing and is the foundational Chair of the HGSA Molecular Quality Assurance Program (QAP). She was awarded the Victorian Premier's prize for achievement in Medical Research in 1998, and the Victoria's Young Tall Poppies award from the Australian Institute of Political Science in 1999. She is involved in a number of high level committees and advisory boards in genetics.

Epigenetic Inheritance - Future Diagnostic Tests?
  • Dr Jeffrey M Craig, Epigenetics Research Group, Murdoch Childrens Research Institute

Dr Jeff Craig's primary research interest is the relationship between chromosome structure and function, specifically the way in which the environment can influence both, with downstream consequences for health and disease. Dr Craig started his research career as a cytogeneticist, then gained his Ph.D. at the MRC Human Genetics Unit in Edinburgh where he shed light on relationships between chromosome banding patterns and gene density. After postdoctoral research in Munich, Edinburgh and Melbourne, he set up the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute Epigenetics Research Group in early 2006 with Dr Richard Saffery, with the aim of investigating epigenetic contributions to childhood and adolescent disease.
