New Developments in HIV Molecular Diagnostics

Dr Doris Chibo is the senior medical scientist in the HIV Characterisation Laboratory at VIDRL. Her interests in phylogenetics and viral evolution span the molecular surveillance of measles virus in Australia, the problem of HIV and herpes virus drug resistance and the transmission of HIV in newly infected individuals.

Jennie is a Senior Scientist in the Infectious Diseases Serology department at VIDRL.Her work with infectious diseases began at the Fairfield Infectious Diseases Hospital (later to become VIDRL). During this time she has been involved in virus isolation and identification work and serology. She has developed in-house serological assays and evaluated commercial assays as they became available.

Megan Wieringa completed a Bachelor in Biomedical Science at the University of Tasmania in 2004. Over the last four years she has worked in the Microbiology department at Monash Medical Centre, Southern Health, which has included serology, virology and mycobacteriology. Megan participated in the 2007 NRL workshop on Serology and was one of the 2007 Panbio Sponsored Young Scientist winners. She has recently commenced a Masters of Medical Science at RMIT.
