Prof Rick Speare is Director of the Anton Breinl Centre for Public Health and Tropical Medicine, James Cook University. He has undergraduate qualifications in medicine and veterinary science with PhD in parasitology. A total of 28 years of research on infectious diseases and their control. Prof Speare is recently researching on use of human hookworms as a therapy for autoimmune diseases, notably Crohn’s disease.

Dr Wilkinson is Senior Lecturer in Physiology in the School of Biomedical Sciences, Charles Sturt University. She has research interests in a number of aspects of complementary and alternative medicines and conducts reaserch on the use of complementary and alternative medicines and in the pharmacology of natural products such as essential oils, traditional herbal remedies and honey.

Mr Peter Traynor is the Regulatory & Technical Manager at Oxoid Australia, Thermo Fisher Scientific; National Convenor, Culture Media Special Interest Group, Australian Society for Microbiology; and member of the Joint Working Group on Culture Media, International Standards Organisation (ISO), TC34/SC9. Peter is co-author of various Guidelines for quality control of culture media.
